' ra - August 8, 2012 SPORTS Page 19 Yeack a double winner at Speedway By Ben Deatherage Willamette Speedway On a scorcher of a day the rac- ing at Willamette Speedway was level to the temperatures that were on hand which exceeded over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for the Saturday, Aug. 4 Platt Electric Supply Night to provide some breathtaking racing in all five classes. It was a special night for the Classic Sportsman as their big race of the year was on hand for the in- augural Iron Giant Challenge a 50- lap race for the classification. Larry Ramedes of Dayton paced the-field early but was overtaken by the pre- vious week's winner Kevin Roberts of Gresham on lap three. Roberts was the car to beat un- til the Crawfordsville driver Kyle Yeack came into the picture and gave him a heck of a run. The two cars raced side-by-side with Yeack taking the lead on lap 27 and led the rest the way with the exception of lap 31, in which Robert beat Yeack to the line. For Yeack it was his fourth win of 2012 in the Classic Sportsman division to lead the class in the wins column. But Yeack wasn't done. It looked like Phil Robinson of Leba- non was en route to his first career USRA Modified feature, but reign- ing champion Dustin Dittman had other plans. Dittman, of Albany, took the lead on lap 15 in search of his second win of the season and looked to have the field covered. But Yeack made a pass for the lead on lap 28 after a late race restart and led the rest of the distance to win his third USRA Modified feature of 2012. Saturday, Aug. 11 will be Ladies Night, with all females getting into the races for $6. Classes that will be in action include the DirtCar Super Late Models, Sportsman, Classic Sportsman, and Mini Trucks. For more information visit www.trophymotorsports.com.
