Call (541) 367'2135 O ITUaRIES Sylvia Ashley Sept. 14, 1921 -July 12, 2012 Sylvia "Louise" (Morgan) Ashley, 90, of Siletz, died July 12, 2012 at Samaritan Pacific Commu- nities Hospital in Newport. She was born Sept. 14, 1921 in Kennewick, Wash. to Hattie Anna (Johnson) Morgan and Andrew Jackson Ulysses Sydney Grant "Jack" Morgan. Her youth was spent up and down the West Coast, from Santa Clara, Calif. to Kenne- wick - a good deal of that time in Medford and Sprague River. In 1944, while living in Ta- coma, Wash she met Orville Bur- dette "Bert" Ashley from India- napolis, Ind. Mr. Ashley was in the Army, training at Fort Lewis. On his return from the European The- ater in 1946, they were married in w w WWW w w .v. (1946- 51), Springfield, Depoe Bay and Newport, (1951-72), and retired in Eddyville (1972-81) and Sweet Home ( 1981-2004). Mrs. Ashley made most of her children's clothing when they were growing up, raised a big garden of vegetables and flowers (current crops in now), and loved to read. All sorts of crafts interested her, but mostly she loved to do them with her friends. And she loved her dogs. She is survived by her daugh- ters, Teresa Ann Ashley of Seattle, Cecile Louellen Ashley of Siletz and Jacklyn Bea Ashley of Toledo; four grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. Mrs. Ashley was preceded in death by her husband in 2003. A memorial was held at the Church of Christ in Siletz on July 21, 2012. He loved to work on cars, hunt and spend time with friends and family. Mr. Humphries is survived by a daughter, Felicia Humphries of Sweet Home; sons Gilbert McQuiston, Raymond McQuis- ton and Keith McQuiston, all of Rogers, Ark.; sister Sherry Rein- hart of Brownsville; brother Toby Humphries of Lebanon; 13 grand- children; and six great-grandchil- dren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Humphries, in 2011. A Celebration of Life is planned at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Waterloo Park Gazebo, fol- lowed by a potluck. She was born Sept. 5, 1936 in Port- land to Harry and Frieda (Mostert) Scott. She has lived in Sweet Home since 1947. She married Larry Dean Whitton on August 5, 1978 in Sweet Home. Mrs. Whitton enjoyed sewing and cooking, playing cards and bingo. She is survived by her sons, Louis Trent of Pendleton, Jeff Whitton of Elmira and Frank Whir- ton of Redmond; daughter Becky and son-in-law Kelly Sweeney of Portland; brothers Harold Scott of Lebanon and Larry Scott of Sweet Home; and many much-loved grandchildren and great-grandchil- dren. Mrs. Whitton was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Dean Whitton; son Cary Trent on June 29, 2012; and half siblings Dan, Buck and Irene Scott.
