lle T, r - April 11,2012 Page 9 r;rjj00jji I tJJU}00J ........... By Dave Bauer Toumament Director What a great turnout for Saturday's big event! Family members and friends, speakers from our seminars and repre- sentatives from local businesses were there to support our contestants as they showed up one last time to be measured and weighed. Measurements were taken first and then everyone sat and waited for the final weigh-in to begin. One by one they came up to weigh and, as weight loss numbers were called, there were cheers from the crowd and quite a few happy dances. As the coordinator of this contest, I have to say it was my favorite part of the day and my favorite part of the past 12 weeks. Hearing their total weight loss numbers and seeing the happiness and excitement on their faces made every minute put toward this contest worth it. Giving away over $5,600 in cash and prizes that day was pretty great, too. The total cash jackpot split between the winners was $3,446 and prizes donated by our local businesses added up to $2,200. Our big winners of the day won cash prizes for the highest percentage of weight loss.. Winners for each category were: For the women, first-place winner was Morgan Hansen. Runner-up was Loretta Savri. For the men, Tom Wall took first place, while Art Funk wassecond. In the team competition, first place went to the Red Team of Beth Lambert, Shannon Thayer, Alycia Hardin and Mi- chelle Knight. Runner-ups were G-ma's Cookin: Jeanetta Lamb, John Hart, Kalie i!:i!iiiiiii !iiill i!!!!!!!i! i i!iiii!ii!i The Winner, Morgan Hansen - before and after Hackworth and Serena Hackworth. Morgan took top honors with the highest weight loss percentage of all the contestants. She lost an amazing 27.5 percent. " Because the contest coordinator (who would be me) allowed everyone to take home their Stat cards, these are the only stats we have for you for the con- test. Oops. "Epic fail" as my daughter would say, so we will just move on to the prize winners. As first place winners, Morgan and Tom each received $775 and The Red Team won $1,895. Each runner up re- ceived a one-year membership to Steel- head Strength and Fitness. Not bad for losing, eh? The prize for "Best Team Name" went to "G-ma's Cookin Us Up a Health- ier Life." Each team member won a $50 Visa card donated by Linn-Co Federal Credit Union. "Best Recipe" prize went to Jeanet- ta Lamb, who received a $50 certificate to Cut Loose Salon, donated by Karyn Hartsook of Farmer's Insurance. "Most Entertaining Journal Entries" went to Loretta Savri. She received a $30 tanning package from Cut Loose Salon. MicheUe Carpenter won a goodie bag, complete with a day concert ticket donated by The Oregon Jamboree. Shannon Thayer won a massage from "Oh My Massage." Sandy Putney will be enjoying a one-night getaway in a luxury spa suite in Albany, donated by The Sweet Home Inn. A $50 gift certificate from Sweet Home RV went to Pat Ward and Gina Swanson brought home the groceries with a $50 gift certificate donated by Thriftway. " The Coffee Hut, Subway and Sun- shine Espresso donated prizes given away on Saturday, as well. And we want to give a special thanks to all of our vol- unteers and to Bob Richards Auto Sales, K&J Auto Sales and Simply Chiropractic COHTESTR00TS: for sponsoring our event location at the high school. Like everyone who donat- ed to the cause, you made this contest great! I encourage all of you who are read- ing to take a moment and read the list of sponsors at the bottom of this page and to thank them for being a part of Lose for Life, and a part of your community, the next time you visit their business. This level of participation doesn't happen in just any small town, but it happens in yours. Again, AWESOME JOB to all of you who kept going through the contest! You are an inspiration to those whose lives you have touched. With conflicting schedules and life changes, the 12 week commitment was hard for many, even with the flexibility we tried to work into the program. We are proud of you and you should be proud of your accomplish- ment. You made Lose for Life a reality, a success and a way of life. The Lose for Life contest is not fin- ished. A $200 follow-up prize has been donated by Mr. Lucky's Dell and All Star Pizza for the contestant at Saturday's weigh-in who maintains or progresses the most over the next six months. The official rules and weigh-in date are to be determined. This was also the first of many Lose for Life contests to come. Next year's contest will be oper- ated by a committee, with the intention of reaching more people in our community with the message and opportunity of a healthier, happier lifestyle. To all of our followers we want to say, stay healthy, stay active and stay tuned.
