Wright Jr ECONOMY Mon - Fri p.m. Joe Ponzoha celebrates 90 years Father Fred Anthony, left, of St. Helens Catholic Church con- gratulates Joe Ponzoha, who was honored at the church with a 90th birthdayparty on March 10. Ponzoha was born March 5, 1922 to Polish immigrants. He served in the Army Air Corps during Worm War H and came to Sweet Home in 1947, where he worked until he retired at the Foster sawmill and plywood mill. Many of his Polish relatives attended the party, as well as local friends, seven children, rune grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, al! of whom were treated to a luncheon featuring a Polish menu. The hall was decorated with Polish and American flags, with roses on each table. Those in atten- dance came from as far away as Texas and Hawaii. Ponzoha was well known locally for playing Santa for 55 years in local schools, parades, clubs and Singing Christmas Tree perfor- mances. LE] r .........
