A second charge of third- degree rape was dismissed. He also was fined $142. He was charged in connection to a an incident on Feb. 1,2011. Leland Michael Wright A six-person Linn County jury assault. Wright then allegedly pulled a knife from his pants and threw it away from him. Wright was transported by a REACH helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. Austin Ryan Riehards Morrell on Sept. 7 following an on Jan. 11 found'Leland Michael Austin Ryan Richards, 18, inve tigati0n that began on Aug. Wright guilty of f0urth-degree pleaded guilty on March 14 to two 24 after school officials learned of allegations of sexual contact between Morrell and afemale juvenile. School officials had reported it to the police. Morrell had been the chaperone for a group of approximately 12 Sweet Home students at a scholastic competition in Portland. A 17-year- old feniale student from Lebanon also attended with the group and spent three nights in a Portland motel. During that time, the Lebanon juvenile allegedly shared the motel room and bed with Morrell for two nights, said Police Chief Bob Burford. Following that, he allegedly had sexual contact with the juvenile four times. As part of the agreement, Morrell. who was born in 1982. had to admit sexual contact with the victim on four separate occasions. Morrell was the business teacher at Sweet Home High School. The district terminated his employment in October following an investigation by the district. Other local residents who have had days in court include: Andrew Dale Parker Andrew Dale Parker pleaded no contest on Feb. 22 to third- degree rape and was sentenced to 13 months in prison with 24 months assault but acquitted him on a charge of menacing in connection to a shooting in Tangent on June 26. Wright was sentenced on Feb. 16 to 120 hours in jail and 36 months probation with fines and fees of $942. On June 26. Linn County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call from 30-year-old John Allen Curran, who stated he had been assaulted at 33105 Ridge Drive by a man who was later identified as 26-year-old Leland Michael Wright of Sweet Home, said Sheriff Tim Mueller. Acc0rdingto Curran, whoraises and trains Labrador Retrievers. Wright arrived at his residence and asked about purchasing a dog, Mueller said. After looking at the dogs, - Curran walked with Wright on his way off the property and was on the driveway when allegedly Wright suddenly, and without provocation, violently attacked him and knocked him to the ground. Mueller said. Curran yelled for help and realized no one was in the area to assist him. Mueller said. Curran. who is a concealed weapons permit holder, was able to draw his .38-caliber revolver during the fight and fired one round, striking Wright in the abdomen, which ended the counts of first-degree burglary and one count of first-degree theft. Richards was sentenced to 33 days in prison on each charge, which were to be served concurrently. He will serve 36 months on probation and pay $9,070 in restitution to the victims. He also was ordered to pay $600 in fines and fees. The charges were related to a series of burglaries in January and February. Sweet Home police officers arrested Richards on Feb. 9 near a 38th Avenue home where a neighbor had reported a burglary in progress. A neighbor ,reported seeing Richards walk up to the house, knock, go tO the driveway to make a phone call and then return to the door. Afterward, the neighbor heard a crash from the rear of the house, and he called the police. Police have arrested two additional persons for theft by receiving in connection to their inyestigation into the burglaries, Wayne C01e H0wser, 36. and Todd Jeremy Clark. 36. Both were charged with first-degree theft by receiving. Howser was scheduled for a hearing on March 19. and Clark is scheduled for a hearing on March 26. The investigationis continuing. 32, arrested for misdemeanor driving while suspended. interfering with a police officer. resisting arrest, second-degree criminal mischief and two counts of assaulting a public safety officer in addition to a Lebanon warrant for attempting to elude, 890 Main St. Transported to Lebanon Police Department. 6:45 p.m - Caller reported that someone broke in and stole a number of items while she was out of town, 1100 block of Main. Report taken for theft of $250 in property. 11:39 p.m. - Caller reported plastic wrap across both Long and Mountain View. Officer responded. Plastic wrap removed. March 13 3:41 a.m - Caller reported noticing items were missing after returning home. 4300 block of Main. Report taken for missing laptop, X-Box 360. black safe and man's gold ring, valued at approximately $1.100. 9:33 a.m. - Caller reported theft of satellite dish from an empty unit during the night, 3224 Main St.. South Fork Trailer Park. 1:47 p.m. - Nicholas Ryan Edwards. 15. referred to Juvenile Pep/tomcat for runaway, Skate Park. Sweet Home Police Department. 6:36 p.m. - Paula Lynn Melbye, 40, arrested on Deschutes County warrant for violation of release agreement and Lirm County warrant for probation violation. 1102 Nandina St. Transported to Linn County Jail. 9:19 p.m. - Kenneth William Maschke. 16. referred to Juvenile Department for runaway, 1950 Main St., Sweet Home Police Department. Released to foster mother. 9:43 p.m. Kevin Coy Coates, 27, cited for driving while suspended, Long near 13th. 10:37 p.m. - Tony Ray Picard. 24. arrested for harassment (domestic violence), 3026 Main St. Transported to Linn County Jail March 12 7:26 a.m. - Single-vehicle crash, 29000 block of Liberty. Driver was Tyler James Holman, 19. of Sweet Home. He was uninjured. Vehicle traveled off the west side of the road causing damage only to his vehicle. No citations. 4:08 p.m. - Michael John Noland, 39, arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, fourth,degree assault (domestic violence), strangulation. interfering with a 9-1-1 call and coercion. 4860 48th Loop. Transported to Linn County Jail. 4:18 p.m. - Caller reported that teens at Speedee Mart have been breaking his child's toys and throwing them in the dumpster, 1501 Main St. Report taken. Toy stroller valued at approximately $10 was broken. 7:56 p.m. - Caller reported cats that disappeared more than a month earlier were being advertised on craigslist.com. 900 block of 13th.
