Tim Byerly views some of the approximately 450pieces of art on display in the Sweet Home Library during the school's Art Month, which runs through March. The event is open to the public. Art instructor Gelindo Ferrin said the number of piece on display in the exhibit, most by student artists, with a few professional pieces mixed in, are the most the exhibit has ever had. Most are available for sale. Bowls and cups created by art teacher Gelindo Ferrin and visiting artist Jason Hess, who led a pottery workshop at the high school last year, are among the works on display. Morgan Of The New Era The Overhead Door Corporation has discontinued its EcoBuilt line of garage door panels and is closing its Sweet Home plant this spring. "Obviously, this was an incredibly difficult decision for us to make," said Kevin Jones, director of brand management. The plant, located at 1744 Main St., exclusively manufactured EcoBuilt overhead doors. "It's a product Overhead Door has offered for quite some time, for quite a few years." The doors are manufactured using Douglas fir shavings and recycled newsprint, Jones said. It is the only product made at the Sweet Home plant: Overhead Door has operated the plant several years longer than the three years Jones has been with the company, he said, but he wasn't sure exactly how long. Previously, the plant was owned by Ankmar Overhead Garage Door at least through 2005 and Smurffit Corporation before that. "There are approximately 16 employees that are affected," Jones said. "They're all eligible to interview with other positions within the corporation." The ones that are not put into other positions will receive a severance package Jones said. Overhead Door, based in plant to close Dallas, Texas, has been operating since 1921, celebrating its 90th anniversary last year, Jones said. Overhead Door Corporation created the original overhead garage door in 1921 and the first electric garage door opener in 1926. It offers a full line of residential and commercial garage doors and openers, including the Wayne-Dalton brand, Genie brand garage door openers and the Overhead Door brand. The company has distributors and dealers throughout the nation. Overhead Door is owned by Sanwa Holdings Corporation of Tokyo, a shutter manufacturer founded in 1956.
